The unique shape of Kalpitiya peninsula allows plenty of beach areas which is very easy to reach. Even though there is plenty of unique experiences which we can offer to you, we understand that our beach is TOP ATTRACTION why most of you comes here.
The peninsula is around 3km wide but more than 50km long which makes it perfect beach location. As you can see on the map, there is not many location far from the beach. Later in this article we will describe what to expect various locations.
Alankuda sunset beach
What makes our home beach unique is the high sand dune. You can pass it within less than 5 minutes and enjoy beatiful empty beach. Most of our visitors appreciate that they are the only people as far as they can see.
In Alankuda you have easy entry to Indian Ocean, no currents!
You can watch sunsets into the Indian Ocean or you can walk for around 3km upto Talawila St. Anne’s Shrine – the biggest catholic church in Sri Lanka extends to large area covered by beautiful garden.
In the ocean right in front of the beach you also do scuba diving trips.

Uchchimuni beach
From Dune Towers upto Uchchimuni beach in the northern tip of Kalpitiya, you can find many kilometers of beach. The northern part can be accessed by our 4WD vehicle.
Kalpitiya beach in lagoon
In Kalpitiya lagoon the beaches are little different. The most beautiful beaches can only be accessed by boat (for example during our Mangrove boat tour within lagoon).
Some beaches can be found on sandy islands which are just around 5 meters wide and 50 meters long. Perfect location for picnic.
Others are on mangrove side of lagoon and we take you there during the mangrove tour.
Kitesurfing beach
There are several beaches made to kitesurfing. Namely Kappalady lagoon beach near to Dune Towers or Kudawa lagoon beach further north.
If you are experienced kitesurfer or you consider to try this unique experience, Kalpitiya is the best palce to be. Thanks to the shallow lagoons separated from Ocean by narrow stripe of sand, you can enjoy perfect wind but no waves within the lagoon. Perfect for training.
