Question When to go to Sri Lanka has very simple answer: anytime! The only factor is which parts of Sri Lanka do you prefer.
In general don’t be affraid of the rain too much. During the rainy season it usually rains just a few hours and mostly during nights.
When to go Kalpitiya? Anytime!
Kalpitiya is true year round destination since it is located in dry part of the island. In this article we show you what you can enjoy during every month here and you can choose your best time to come here (Kalpitiya in Sri Lanka map is 120km north of the Colombo airport).

December
start of the main beach season, sky is blue, waves are small, very little rain. You can enjoy not only sun-bathing and swimming, but also scuba-diving. Whale watching season is starting with Sperm whales and their calves and a lot of dolphins coming here.
January
ongoing main season with low rainfall, blue skies and calm sea with Bryde’s and Eden’s whales and big groups of dolphins in our seas (check December for more details).
February

March
ongoing main season with low rainfall, blue skies and calm sea with Sperm whales and a lot of dolphins in our seas (check December for more details).

May
can be more cloudy, wind start blowing from the West (Ocean) side and so the kitesurfing season is starting. We have usually no rain, while Colombo and south is facing heavy rains.
June
little cloudy, please check May for more details.
July
kitesurfing season is in its peak. More wind is cooling our guests during hot months. Waves are bigger but still acceptable for most guest from 12 years up.
August
windy and hot month, please check July for more details.
September
wind starts slowing down, sea wave getting smaller while sky is stil blue with sunny days.
October
winds slowing down, with some rainy days. Peacock male are dancing regularly.
November
mostly cloudy and upto 10 rainy days is the coldest and wettest month. The wind is off and so whale watching season is starting with Sperm whales and their calves and a lot of dolphins coming here.
Any month you can sunbath here and get tanned. Enjoy garden with all the trees, flowers and birds. Massages are available anytime too.
Best time to visit Kalpitiya
For dolphin and whale watching and scuba diving – the best month to visit Kalpitiya is December to April
For kitesurfing – the best month to visit Kalpitiya is May to September
For relaxing and watching dancing peacocks (showing open tail feathers) and avoiding hottest time – the best month to visit Kalpitiya is October and November
Sri Lanka when to go
To Sri Lanka you can go any month of a year.
The best time to visit South west of Sri Lanka (which is from Colombo to Yala) is from December to April. From May the south is getting some rain, but for example here in Kalpitiya we mostly have no rain from December to September.
On the other hand, the best season for the East of Sri Lanka is from May to September.
If you are visiting the mountains of Sri Lanka, then be careful, as the rain here is more frequent than in other parts of the island.
